Before and After

HOORAY!!! THEY'RE DONE!!! THEY ARE SO PRETTY!!! This is that point in the project, where the biggest change is finished, and the loads left to do, seems like a minor detail. It's such a comfortable change, it makes us wonder why we left the other way for so long. Happy dance!

@ sis k : the cat is actually a stuffed fluffy cow that our dog has been playing with, but good idea for a rug burn cover!
@ navilyn : thanks! me too!

The shelves are PERFECT! Love the cars as shelf ends, too. We know why you lived with it the other way so long...you were busy doing other stuff, like the kitchen, the bathroom, the back stairs, the basement windows, your bedroom, the nursery, the castle room, the playroom... :). I won't even start in on the list of other distractions, like having two kids!

Frauke, gorgeous! Do you hire out?? Hee hee. We've got some needs regarding our fireplace too...

I would love to hire Joe out, when he's done here! which may never happen despite the long list karen recited of all that he has already done!

i kind of like the original fireplace. was it original to the house? there's something about red brick, was it real or the fake stuff? did you make the windows smaller? did you lower the ceiling? did you raise the floor?

the original was put in by the people before, not orginial to the house. it was real brick - each brick was carefully taken out, cleaned and will be used for soemthing else. nothing was done to the floor or ceiling, but with the trim off from around the windows, it looks strange.

I've been searching for decor ideas for around/behind our new pellet stove. I just stumbled upon your pictures.
I love what you did to yours! Thank you for the inspiration.
